Central Maryland’s Bike to Work program promotes the health, recreational and environmental benefits of biking as an alternative to commuting by car.
Established in 1996, the annual program has grown to include activities throughout the week of National Bike to Work Day
(Friday, May 16, 2025). Participant jurisdictions include Baltimore City and Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Harford, Howard and Queen Anne’s Counties. Local transportation agencies lead event programming, and the Baltimore Metropolitan Council leads regional coordination and promotion.
Goals Include:
- boosting awareness of bike safety,
- bringing attention to existing and potential
- bike infrastructure,
- building institutional support for biking, and
- encouraging more folks to consider biking
- for commuting and recreation.
The program includes
- Live events such as commuter Pit Stops, group rides and more,
- Popular annual t-shirts available free to registrants, as well as additional prizes,
- Partnerships with local bike shops as t-shirt pickup locations and event hosts,
- Press events, addresses from elected officials and earned media coverage,
- Paid advertising across many modes throughout the region, and
- Significant placements promoting sponsors at all levels.

Note that in order to ensure your organization’s logo is included in promotional materials, your application must be submitted and BMC must receive your donation and/or commitment, and your organization's logo no later than Thursday, June 18, 2020. All logo files must be Vector Format or at least 300 dpi (.pdf or .psd with all layers).
